Main concept of Smartcity application was presented at conference Current issues of public transport. In technology section there are more presentations how information technology tools and solutions can enhace the quality of public transport. We could hear about a nationwide public transport database and the latest GIS developments too. If we think about these ideas as group of services then we can find future way of public transport.

Imagine that: you have theater ticket for a tonight show. You have got no idea how to go to the theater.

Get your phone and start the route planner application (eg. Smartcity). You can travel by trains, by long-distance coaches or by the local public transport too. The GPS built-in our phone could say where you are. You should set the destination and start planning.

The phone could find the best way at a predefined start time, you can take the next bus. It uses not only geographical informations, it calculates timetable schedules too. And not only in a city. You can find your way from Budapest to the exhibition in MODEM (which is located in Debrecen) - from door of your house to the museum entry.

This is the vision of intermodal route planning, GIS applications and the nationwide public transport database. Maybe in the future we can fly to a Broadway premiere with use of this application. Why not...
